How To Measure

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR FLOOR AREA.

1.  Ensure you have a long enough tape measure.

2. Draw a basic sketch of the floor area to be measured. If measuring more than one room, draw the rooms similar to how they are laid out in your home (i.e a birds eye view of the floor plan).

3. Measure the rooms as described below:-

This room is easy to measure, by multiplying measurement "A" by measurement "B".

EXAMPLE :     Measurement “A” is 6 metres, measurement “B” is 4 metres,
                                    6 X 4 = 24 square metres.

If measuring to fit carpet add 10cm onto each measurement and allow the tape measure to go just through the doorway.

GETTING MORE TECHNICAL !

If you have an “L” shaped room, imagine and measure them as two areas, then add them together.

EXAMPLE:    You already know how to measure a basic shaped room. This is just the same, you are measuring two basic rooms and adding them together.

                     A = 5 metres
                     B = 3 metres
                     C = 2 metres
                     D = 3 metres               
AREA 1    A X B = 15 metres
AREA 2    C X D = 6 metres
ROOM SIZE = 21 square metres

NOTE If measuring to fit carpet you need to measure the longest distance for the width and length of the room, e.g. "A" multiplied by "E".

If a room is even more complicated, seperate it into areas you can measure and add them together. 

1+2+3= Floor Area.

If measuring to fit carpet for this room, the measurements would be "A" multiplied by "B".

MEASURING A HALLWAY

NOW, HOW TO MEASURE YOUR STAIRS AND LANDING !

When measuring the landing it will probably be just like the hallway, but remember, when measuring for carpet you must measure over the top step.

Measure “B” for each step and allow approximately 5cm for tucking in. Measure the width of the stairs and count how many steps there are.

If there are winders on the stairs it is best to allow 130cm x 130cm for each one.
